What is Dext?
Photograph a receipt or forward an invoice and Dext extracts the supplier, date, net, VAT and gross, then pushes it into Xero, QuickBooks or Sage. UK-built, and squarely aimed at the shoebox-of-receipts problem that costs small businesses real money at year end.
The value is measurable in a way most AI is not: VAT you can evidence and reclaim versus VAT you lose because the receipt went through the wash. For an electrician or a builder buying materials four times a week, that is a real number at the end of the year.
It earns most of its keep through your accountant. If they receive clean, categorised records instead of a carrier bag in January, their bill reflects it.
What does Dext cost in the UK?

What to watch on the price
We could not retrieve the UK pricing page to verify current plans — the link goes to the vendor page. Dext sells to the UK in pounds.
Does Dext train AI models on your data?
No
Dext states: "This ensures that we do not allow any third-party generative AI tool providers which we use in our services to train their models using your data (including personal)." Read the scope carefully: the commitment is about the third-party generative AI providers Dext uses, and does not separately address Dext's own receipt-extraction models. Read on 30 August 2026.

What do people use Dext for?
- Photograph a receipt at the counter and never handle it again
- Forward supplier invoices straight into the accounts
- Stop losing VAT you were entitled to reclaim because the receipt faded
What does Dext connect to?
- Xero
- QuickBooks
- Sage
- FreeAgent
Where does Dext fall short?
- Extraction from crumpled or faded thermal receipts still needs checking
- Another subscription on top of your accounting package
- Most valuable when your accountant is on the other end of it — less so if you self-file
Who is Dext for?
A good fit for
- Trades
- Anyone with paper receipts
- Businesses using an accountant
Not for
- Businesses with almost no paper receipts, where it is a subscription solving nothing
- Anyone who self-files and will not pass the records to an accountant, which is where most of the value lands
The Torus verdict on Dext
The clearest productivity win in this category for a trades or field business. A UK vendor solving a UK VAT problem, which is rarer than it should be.
