What is Mailchimp?
The email platform most small businesses have heard of, now with content generation, send-time optimisation and predicted segmentation. The AI is helpful; the reason it is here is that a very large number of UK small businesses already have a list on it.
The AI worth using here is send-time optimisation, which is a genuine statistical gain rather than a feature that sounds good. Content generation is adequate and no better than a general assistant.
The thing that costs UK businesses money is dead contacts. You pay for people who have not opened an email in two years, and clearing them out both cuts the bill and lifts your open rate, which is what protects deliverability.
What does Mailchimp cost in the UK?
From £9 per month.
What to watch on the price
Figure read from the vendor pricing page on 25 August 2026 and not re-checked. Mailchimp prices UK accounts in pounds, and cost rises with contact count rather than features.
Does Mailchimp train AI models on your data?
Vendor does not publish it
Mailchimp's privacy link redirects to Intuit's Global Privacy Statement, read on 30 August 2026, which does not mention model training. Note that this covers Intuit as a whole rather than Mailchimp specifically.

- Shopify

Where does Mailchimp fall short?
- Cost scales with contacts, including the ones who never open anything — list hygiene is a direct saving
- Cheaper competitors do the same job at small volumes
- AI features are spread across tiers
Who is Mailchimp for?
A good fit for
- Ecommerce
- Local businesses with a mailing list
- Existing Mailchimp users
Not for
- Businesses with a large, quiet list — you pay for contacts who never open anything
- Anyone starting fresh who has not priced Brevo first
The Torus verdict on Mailchimp
Fine if your list is already there. If you are starting fresh, price it against Brevo before committing, because the contact-based pricing gets expensive faster than people expect.
What are the alternatives to Mailchimp?
